Dedicating New TreesHundy Mundy Wood is managed by Mellerstain Estate with the long-term aim of preserving this important landscape feature that frames the historic folly tower.
A recent survey has identified a number of trees along the southern boundary which are in poor condition and need to be felled. Other trees require pruning to remove dangerous branches. This work will be undertaken this year under the direction of the estate’s Forestry Manager with the assistance of our custodian. We apologise in advance for any disturbance or inconvenience which results. New planting to regenerate the woodland will be carried out in small groups enclosed within post and rail enclosures. The trees would be protected in tubes to protect them from rabbit and deer and receive regular weeding and mulching to help them establish quickly. It will be possible to sponsor the enclosed groups and dedicate the trees planted to the memory of someone at rest in Hundy Mundy. The young saplings will be selected from locally grown stock and will be species that are native to the area. A horticultural tree label, similar to that show on the right, will be placed inside the enclosure with details of the tree dedication. If this is something that you would like to do, please complete and return the Tree Dedication Application Form. |
